Nearly 7-hour SWAT standoff in Dayton ends with 1 in custody

A nearly seven-hour SWAT standoff in Dayton ended with a man taken into custody who was a felonious assault suspect, police said.

Police and SWAT crews responded early Thursday morning to a house in the 3700 block of East Third Street after receiving a report that a man in the house wouldn’t let people leave, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch records.

Dispatchers said that the original report came in at 1:50 a.m. The man was in the home with family members, police said.

Dayton police did not name the suspect arrested. However, 39-year-old Thomas Leon Ross Sr., who is in the Montgomery County Jail, matches the images of the suspect taken into custody at the scene.

Ross was arrested Thursday morning in the 3700 block of East Third Street. He was booked into the jail at 9:13 a.m. for a felonious assault case in Dayton Municipal Court and also faces a misdemeanor OVI charge from Montgomery County Municipal Court, Western Division, jail records show.
